My project aims to quantify the SDA (specific dynamic action) response in snowflake morays. I am interested in understanding how feeding affects the SMR of morays because they have an unusual, highly elongate body shape compared to the fusiform shape of most fishes. To do this, I am measuring the standard metabolic rate of these fishes using closed flow respirometry. I will then compare the oxygen consumption in these trials to oxygen consumption following ingestion of different sizes of prey. I am 4 year NCAA volleyball player at UCSC, 2-time captain of the team. I am also a research assistant at the Pinniped Cognition and Sensory Systems Lab here at Long Marine Lab.
