My research interests include elongate vertebrate physiology, marine mammal physiology, marine mammal cognition and sensory systems, and physiological responses to disturbance.My project aims to quantify the SDA (specific dynamic action) response in snowflake morays. I am interested in understanding how feeding affects the SMR of morays because they have an unusual, highly elongate body shape compared to the fusiform shape of most fishes. To do this, I am measuring the standard metabolic rate of these fishes using closed flow respirometry. I will then compare the oxygen consumption in these trials to oxygen consumption following ingestion of different sizes of prey. I am 4 year NCAA volleyball player at UCSC, 2-time captain of the team. I am also a research assistant at the Pinniped Cognition and Sensory Systems Lab here at Long Marine Lab.
